The history of civilisations, from prehistory to the modern era

Designed as a multidisciplinary museum, the Museum of Art and History houses collections linked to archaeology, fine arts and applied arts and offers a view of the history of civilisations, from prehistory to the modern era.

The Museum’s collections reflect the great curiosity and openness to the outside world that motivated their creators and generous donors. They took an equal interest in archaeology, porcelain, fine arts and applied arts.

Geneva is the only Swiss city to have an encyclopaedic museum that houses reminders of the whole of Western culture, from its origins to the modern day.
